The Federal Republic of the United States of America is a transcontinental country covering more than 9.8 million <\/span>sq.kms<\/span>. The world\u2019s 3rd largest country in terms of surface area, its main territory is bordered by Canada to the north, Mexico to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Alaska and Hawaii, respectively located to the west of Canada and in the North Pacific, are two non-adjacent states forming part of this federal republic. Its main sources of income are industry and services, with the tertiary sector accounting for nearly 75% of the national economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The United States is the leading destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) outside of the European Union (EU). The United States ranks 1st among foreign investors in France. In both directions, the majority of investments concern Research and Development (R&D). Nearly US$120 billion worth of goods and services are traded annually between the two countries, mainly in the aeronautical, luxury goods, chemicals and agri-food sectors. Nearly 4,800 subsidiaries of French companies employ 575,000 people in the United States. France hosts almost 4,600 subsidiaries of American companies, employing nearly 444,000 people.<\/span><\/p>\n
